How to choose your brushes

Next |

The tutorial I promised long ago. Now I have gathered some material.
The content of this tutorial is not by me, because I figured, so many masters explained it better than I. I will just try to translate some of the material, but it will largely be "visual" based

This is the basic starting position for calligraphy, keeping this post at first is rigid and hard, but as you get comfortable, it's just like learning to hold Chinese chopstick.

Notes:

Things you need to start:

An calligraphy brush- medium size brush, you can get it in the art stores in USA, or online at internet shops. (ebay has everything...) Their prize ranges from $7-

An ink bottle- any ink would work, such as india ink to the calligraphy ink from Japan. (just the cheaper ink is more expensive.)

Rice paper, or just newspaper for practice.

Extras: Ink stone and ink stick, you only need them if you wish to paint Chinese watercolor, or to feel the traditional approach, most people use normal ink today to save time from grindding.

it gives more flexibility and movement, the opposite of writing with a pen where you want to stop the hand and arm moving so have a small tight and close grip on the pen.
